Harman Kardon, best known in the home theatre space for its receivers and speakers, is expanding its product line up with the HS 100, a complete home theatre in a box solution. The HS 100 comes with a progressive scan DVD player as well as a full 5.1 channel surround sound speaker set-up. The system's speakers are quite petite, with the main DVD unit sporting a relatively clutter-free black gloss front (with only a cantered volume control in the centre).

The DVD player acts as the system's receiver, boasting 5x35W of total power output. The main unit is compatible with Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II and DTS, and can play formats such as DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, CD, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, Windows Media Audio files, MP3 discs and more. At the back is a comprehensive if not outstanding list of connectors, which includes component, S-Video, composite, coaxial digital, optical digital and analog audio.

The 5.1-channel speaker system supplied with the HS 100 includes four two-way, magnetically shielded satellite speakers, a two-way shielded centre channel speaker, and a subwoofer. Wall mounting brackets for the satellite speakers and cables are supplied. The satellites feature a 3-inch woofer and ½-inch dome tweeter, while the centre speaker has dual 3-inch woofers and a ¾-inch dome tweeter. The subwoofer has its own built-in 100-watt amplifier and 10-inch woofer.
